Symptoms of Worm Infections in Dogs

Worm eggs and larvae are almost everywhere. Even the best precautions cannot prevent quadrupeds from becoming infected with these parasites. With each new infection, a dangerous cycle begins. Therefore, it is important to deworm dogs regularly. Here’s all about worms in dogs:

Dogs are already in contact with the source of infection during their daily walks. Infected animals of the same species, feces of other dogs, and rodents are considered sources of risk. There is not much that dog owners can do to prevent it. But the danger is also lurking at home. Even the cleanest enclosures, well-maintained homes, and high-quality dog food do not guarantee pinworm prevention.

Species of Dog worm

There are different kinds of worms in dogs belonging to different species, as shown below:

Nematode

Hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms belong to the nematodes. They usually live in the host’s small intestine and can lay up to 200,000 eggs per day.

  • The hookworm epidemic is usually accompanied by weight loss, anemia, and diarrhea. Blood-sucking parasites are also dangerous to humans.
  • The same applies to pinworms. Pinworm-infected puppies show obvious symptoms: swelling of the abdomen, cough, rickets.
  • Whipworms can be up to 7.5 centimeters in size and often cause enteritis, weight loss, and weakness in dogs. But there are no signs of danger to humans.

Tapeworms

There are many different types of tapeworms. The four most common are:

  • The dog tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum):

It can grow up to 0.5 meters in length, and its whitish limbs look like grains of rice. Occasionally, debris adheres to the affected dog’s feces and hair, facilitating diagnosis. Digestive disorders, severe itching of the anal area, and thinning can be symptoms of tapeworm epidemics. This type of earthworm is also dangerous to humans.

  • The fox tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis):

It is considered to be the most dangerous to humans. People infected with fox tape often damage liver tissue. The smallest of all tapeworms (approximately 0.4 cm in length) usually inhabits the foxes’ small intestine. Adults are characterized by the release of small terminal members excreted in fox droppings. Theoretically, active limbs are found in bushes, bushes, and fruits. They are often captured by small rodents that act as intermediate hosts. When they reach the dog, the infection spreads again. The presence of Echinococcus multilocularis in dogs is usually completely asymptomatic and is usually unnoticed for long periods of time. Therefore, caregivers should pay attention to dog deworming regularly.

The tapeworms belong to a group of tapeworms that can grow up to 2 meters in length. Despite their impressive length, they are also often overlooked. Infection with this type of worm usually progresses asymptomatically. Only in rare cases, gastrointestinal disorders, weight loss, and intestinal obstruction are observed.

  • Mesocestóididos:

Mesocestóididos can reach up to 2.5 meters in length and are often overlooked. However, heavily infected dogs suffer from loss of appetite and have a coarse coat.

Deworm the dogs: Worms are dangerous!

Worm infections are often completely overlooked at first. Tetrapods show no symptoms of the disease. Do you want to deworm dogs? The normal thing is that the caregiver does not see the reason for this. This is why worms are so dangerous. The number of worms increases day by day, causing great damage to the body. When the dog worm epidemic has been overlooked for a long time, it becomes severe and has obvious symptoms. Some of the results are blood loss, anemia, weight loss, vomiting, general malaise, intestinal and bile duct obstruction, and even death. The spread of worms is not only dangerous for affected quadrupeds. Humans and other animals can also become infected or ill by contact with dogs.
